NIAB Recruitment 2026: Scientist-B & Farm Manager, Apply by 11 September

Both posts are direct recruitment on a regular basis, and both vacancies are reserved for OBC candidates. This is a national opening, not an Assam one, but it is open to Indian citizens anywhere, and the qualifications map closely onto what veterinary and life sciences graduates from Assam already hold.

The Scientist-B vacancy is noted in the advertisement as a lien vacancy that is likely to be continued. Age is reckoned as on the closing date of the online application, so 11 September 2026 is the reference date — our age calculator will tell you exactly where you stand against the 35 or 30 year ceiling. NIAB eligibility criteria

Scientist-B

M.V.Sc, M.Sc, M.Tech or an equivalent degree from a recognised university, with an outstanding academic and publication record, along with 3 years of R&D experience in any of the NIAB thrust areas. Experience counts from the date you acquired the prescribed qualification, not from any earlier work.

Applications are invited in three specific areas:

• Animal Nutrition
• Animal precision gene editing
• Veterinary Gynaecology & Theriogenology, with expertise in assisted reproductive technologies — AI, IVF, ICSI, OPU, ET and similar

The work is on research projects covering livestock production, reproduction and developmental biology — addressing infertility in livestock through both traditional and modern approaches — and animal nutrition and efficient feed utilisation. Scientists are also expected to support other scientists' basic research.

Farm Manager

Graduation in Animal Husbandry or Horticulture, or a Masters in Life Sciences, with a minimum of 50% marks. Desirable: experience handling a herd of farm and large animals and their day-to-day upkeep, in a research organisation or a reputed farm. The role is to look after all animals kept in the institute's animal farms, maintain animal data, and carry out work assigned by the competent authority.

PWD and departmental candidates are exempt from the fee. Payment is either through the institute's online payment link, or by crossed Demand Draft in favour of "National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, Hyderabad", payable at Hyderabad and valid for at least three months. If you pay by DD, the required details must be written on the back and the draft posted to the Director at NIAB, Gachibowli, in an envelope superscribed with the post applied for.

The online payment link is the safer route with the deadline this close. A Demand Draft has to physically reach Hyderabad, and an application without fee payment is summarily rejected.

How to apply for NIAB recruitment 2026

1. Go to niab.res.in and open the recruitment section for Advertisement 18/2026.
2. Register with a username, password and a valid email address. Already-registered candidates log in with existing credentials.
3. Keep soft copies ready in PDF or JPEG before you start: a recent passport size photograph, all educational certificates, all experience certificates, caste or category certificate, NOC from your employer if applicable, and any other testimonials.
4. Fill the online form and upload each certificate in the relevant part of the application.
5. Pay the application fee online, or arrange the Demand Draft and post it.
6. Submit, then take a printout of the PDF and keep it for your records.

Scans must be clean and within the upload limits. If a certificate scan is too large, our PDF compressor will bring it down, image to PDF merges separate pages into one file, and resize image fits a photograph to a required pixel size.

The notification says plainly that candidates should apply early rather than wait for the last date, so that last-moment internet traffic can be avoided. With the window closing at 5 PM on 11 September, that is not boilerplate.

Candidates already employed in Government, Semi-Government organisations, autonomous bodies or PSUs must route their application through proper channel, and upload the NOC, vigilance certificate and integrity certificate from their present employer at the time of online application. The originals are produced at the written or skill test.

NIAB selection process

Only shortlisted candidates are called for a written test and/or skill test, as decided by the competent authority. Where a large number of applications are received, NIAB will screen to limit candidates to those with higher or more relevant qualification and experience, and it reserves the right to convert desirable qualifications into essential ones to reduce the field.

Because of that, list every qualification and every relevant experience you hold above the minimum, with supporting documents. Meeting the minimum alone does not entitle anyone to be called. Appointment is initially on probation for two years, extendable at the discretion of the competent authority.

Candidates called for the test are paid single second class rail fare from their place of journey or normal residence, whichever is nearer to Secunderabad Railway Station, on production of travel documents.

Is this worth applying for from Assam

Two posts, both OBC, at an institute in Hyderabad — the odds are what they are, and the Scientist-B post additionally wants three years of R&D experience and a publication record. If you hold an M.V.Sc or an M.Sc in a relevant area and you are OBC, it is a Pay Level 10 central government research position and worth the Rs. 300 fee. If you do not meet the experience bar, your time is better spent on the state openings.
