CLAT 2027 Notification

The Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the Consortium of National Law Universities met on 18 July 2026 and decided the schedule for the Common Law Admission Test 2027. CLAT is the entrance test used for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes offered by the participating National Law Universities in India.

Two things are fixed by this announcement: the exam date and the application window. The exam is on Sunday, 6 December 2026, in a single two-hour sitting from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The application portal opens on 3 August 2026 and closes on 31 October 2026. The Consortium has said that further details about the admission process will be notified in due course, so the eligibility rules, the fee, the exam pattern and the list of participating universities will come in a later notification.

CLAT 2027 Exam Date

CLAT 2027 will be conducted on Sunday, 6 December 2026. The paper runs from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., a two-hour duration.

Note the year in the name. The exam is written in December 2026 but is called CLAT 2027, because it decides admission for the 2027 academic session. Candidates from Assam who search for "CLAT 2026" are usually looking for this same exam.

CLAT 2027 Application Dates

The online application portal is open from 3 August 2026. The last date for submission of applications is 31 October 2026. That leaves about three months to register, but the portal is busiest in the final week, so applying early avoids the risk of a payment or upload failing on the last day.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

This notification announces the exam date and the application window only. It does not carry the eligibility rules. The Consortium has stated that further details regarding the admission process will be notified in due course.

Do not apply on the basis of eligibility figures from another year or another website. Read the detailed notification when the Consortium publishes it, and check the qualifying marks and the class 12 requirement for your own category before you pay the fee. This page will be updated when the detailed notification is out.

CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for CLAT 2027 has not been released in this notification. What is confirmed is the duration: the paper is written in one sitting of two hours, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on 6 December 2026.

CLAT 2027 Application Fee

The application fee has not been announced in this notification. The Consortium will publish the fee, and the category-wise concession if any, along with the detailed admission notification.

CLAT 2027 How to Apply Online

1. Open the CLAT 2027 application portal from the official Consortium website.
2. Register with your name, mobile number and email address, and set a password.
3. Fill in the application form with your personal, academic and category details exactly as they appear on your certificates.
4. Upload the scanned photograph, signature and documents in the size and format the portal asks for.
5. Pay the application fee online once the Consortium announces it.
6. Check every field, then submit the form before 31 October 2026.
7. Download and save a printed copy of the submitted form and the payment receipt.

Most rejections at this stage are upload problems, not eligibility problems. CLAT 2027 Important Dates

CLAT 2027 for Assam Students

Assam students write CLAT for the same reason as everyone else: it is the single entrance test for the National Law Universities, so one application and one exam covers every participating NLU rather than a separate form for each. Assam has no NLU of its own, and candidates from the state usually apply to the NLUs in the North East and elsewhere through the same common counselling.

The exam is on a Sunday afternoon, which means most candidates travelling from district towns to a city centre will need to leave a day early. Check your allotted centre on the admit card as soon as it is released and book travel before December, when trains out of Guwahati fill up.
