APSC Soil Conservation Ranger: 6,981 on the List for 16 Posts

By AssamJobDesk TeamPublished on

There are 6,981 names on APSC’s list of candidates for the 16 Soil Conservation Ranger posts, about 436 for every seat. The screening test runs from Sunday 1 November to Saturday 7 November 2026, and the e-Admission Certificate is due on apsc.nic.in on 27 October. No letter comes by post.

How many days you travel depends on the two optional subjects you chose. By our count from the list, about three in four candidates took Environmental Science, which means roughly nine in ten have a paper on 7 November.

Six Papers Over Five Days

Date10 AM to 12 noon1:30 PM onwards
Sun 1 NovemberGeneral Knowledge (Paper I, OMR)General English (Paper II, written, till 4:30 PM)
Mon 2 NovemberAgriculture, Agriculture Engineering or HorticultureBotany (till 3:30 PM)
Tue 3 NovemberChemistryCivil Engineering (till 3:30 PM)
Wed 4 NovemberGeologyPhysics (till 3:30 PM)
Sat 7 NovemberEnvironmental ScienceForestry (till 3:30 PM)

Everyone sits both papers on 1 November. After that you sit only your two optionals, all OMR-based. The most common pair on the list is Environmental Science with Forestry (about 1,500 candidates), and they sit both on 7 November. The next most common, Botany with Environmental Science, means coming back on 2 November and again on 7 November.

Your Optionals Carry 400 of the 600 Marks

General Knowledge is 100 marks in two hours. General English is 100 marks in three hours and is written by hand, with an essay, précis and grammar. Each optional paper is 200 marks in two hours. Every OMR paper cuts a quarter mark for each wrong answer, so a blind guess costs you.

The advertisement says the rest of the selection process will be announced later. It also sets a physical standard you’ll need for appointment. Men need a height of 155 cm and chest of 84 cm with 5 cm expansion, and must walk 25 km in four hours. Women need 145 cm and 79 cm, and a 16 km walk in four hours.

16 Posts, and the Job Sites Have the Split Wrong

Several job sites list 3 OBC and 1 SC post. The advertisement (Advt. No. 25/2025) says the opposite.

One post is for a candidate with a hearing impairment. The pay is ₹22,000 to ₹97,000 with grade pay of ₹9,700 (Pay Band 3).

Finding Your Name and Getting In

The list runs to 250 pages in alphabetical order, with your application ID, roll number (10001 to 16981) and the two optionals you chose. Search the PDF for your application ID. Don’t scroll by name, because the last dozen or so entries were added at the end out of order. Check that the subjects shown are the ones you picked, since those are the papers you’ll be seated for.

When I checked APSC’s admit card page on 21 October, there was no Soil Conservation Ranger entry yet. The Junior Engineer (Soil Conservation) admit cards listed there belong to a different exam, Advt. No. 26/2025. The e-Admission Certificate is downloaded with your application number from APSC’s recruitment portal (linked below).

The notice doesn’t name exam centres. The original advertisement said APSC may hold the test zone-wise in Guwahati, Silchar, Jorhat, Nagaon, Tezpur and Kokrajhar, so look for your venue on the certificate. Carry a photo ID such as a PAN card, driving licence, passport, voter ID or Aadhaar. APSC also warns that it can cancel a candidate after the test if the application fails any eligibility rule.

For other admit cards, see the admit card section.

FAQs on the Soil Conservation Ranger Test

My name isn’t on the list. What now?

The notice doesn’t mention a rejected list or a way to object. Search again by application ID first, then contact APSC at apsc-asm@nic.in.

Can I change my optional subjects now?

No route for that is mentioned anywhere. You’ll be seated for the two subjects printed against your name.

Checked against APSC’s screening test notice No. 92PSC/DR-56/1/2024-2025 (dated 1 October 2026), the list of candidates, the original Advt. No. 25/2025 (dated 4 July 2025) and APSC’s admit card page on 21 October 2026.
