This is a graduate-level officer post open to anyone across India, so candidates from Assam apply on the same all-India merit list. Before you start, read one line in the notice carefully: the vacancies are substantially in the Western and Southern zones, and whoever is selected is likely to be posted there for a minimum of five years with no transfer requests entertained during that period. If relocating far from Assam for five years is not workable for you, that is worth knowing now rather than after you have paid the fee.

UIIC AO Vacancy Details 2026

The 225 posts split across two disciplines, and a candidate may apply for only one of them. Applying or appearing for both gets the candidature cancelled.

CategoryGeneralistsHindi Officers
ST181
SC304
OBC627
EWS222
UR6811
Total20025

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities get 4% horizontal reservation under the RPWD Act 2016. Within the Generalist posts that works out to 2 VI, 2 HI, 4 OC and 3 MD/ID; for Hindi Officers it is 1 VI. The company notes that category-wise numbers are provisional and may vary or be interchanged at any stage, and that EWS vacancies are tentative and subject to government directives and the outcome of any litigation.

One more restriction: anyone currently serving as an Administrative Officer (Scale-I) at UIIC cannot apply or appear. If that turns up at any stage, the candidature is cancelled automatically.

UIIC AO Eligibility 2026

All eligibility is counted as on 30 June 2026.

Age

Minimum 21 years and maximum 30 years as on 30 June 2026 — that is, born no earlier than 30 June 1996 and no later than 30 June 2005, both days inclusive. Work out exactly where you stand with our age calculator before paying the fee.

Upper age relaxation:

CategoryRelaxation
SC / ST5 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)3 years
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities10 years
Ex-servicemen with at least five years military service5 years
Defence personnel disabled in operations3 years
Widows, divorced women, women legally separated and not remarried9 years
Confirmed employees of public sector general insurance companies8 years

Where more than one relaxation applies, they are cumulative, but the maximum age cannot exceed 45 years in any case.

Educational qualification

For Generalists: a graduate or post graduate degree in any discipline — engineering, arts, science, commerce, agriculture, data science and others — from a recognised university, with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD) in either degree examination.

For Hindi Officers: a Master's degree with the same 60% threshold (55% for SC/ST/PwBD), in one of several combinations — a Master's in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or medium at degree level; a Master's in English with Hindi in that role; or a Master's in any other subject with the appropriate Hindi and English combination at degree level. Check the notice for the exact combination that matches your degree.

Three points that disqualify people every year:

  • The qualification must be completed on or before 30 June 2026. If you sat your final examination by that date but the result was declared after it, you are not eligible.
  • Where only CGPA or OGPA is awarded, you must produce the university's conversion norms. Fractions are ignored — 59.99% is treated as less than 60%.
  • Working knowledge of computers is a must.

UIIC AO Selection Process and Exam Pattern 2026

Selection runs in three stages: a Preliminary Examination, a Main Examination with a descriptive test, and an interview. Meeting the eligibility norms does not by itself entitle anyone to be called.

Tier I: Preliminary Examination

Same for both disciplines — 100 marks over 1 hour, with each section separately timed.

SectionQuestionsMarksDuration
Test of English Language303020 minutes
Test of Reasoning353520 minutes
Test of Quantitative Aptitude353520 minutes
Total10010060 minutes

You must clear both a sectional cut-off and an overall qualifying score. English is in English only; Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude are in English or Hindi.

Tier II: Main Examination — Generalists

Objective tests for 250 marks over 150 minutes, plus a descriptive test of 30 marks in 30 minutes. The objective paper covers English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness with special reference to the financial sector, and Computer Knowledge, across 200 questions. The descriptive test is in English — letter writing for 10 marks and an essay for 20 — typed on the computer immediately after the objective paper.

For Generalists the final merit list uses the Main Examination objective test and the interview in a 75:25 ratio. Preliminary marks and descriptive marks do not count towards the final merit.

Tier II: Main Examination — Hindi Officers

Objective tests for 200 marks over 120 minutes across 150 questions, plus a descriptive test of 50 marks in 60 minutes.

SectionQuestionsMarksDuration
Test of English Language252520 minutes
Test of Reasoning252530 minutes
Professional Knowledge (Hindi and English grammar, Official Language rules, translation)5010050 minutes
Test of General Awareness252510 minutes
Test of Computer Knowledge252510 minutes
Total150200120 minutes

The descriptive test carries an English essay (10), Hindi essay (10), Hindi letter writing (10), English to Hindi translation (10) and Hindi to English translation (10). Hindi typing uses the Inscript or Remington (GAIL) keyboard layout, so practise on one of them beforehand. For Hindi Officers the merit list uses the objective and descriptive marks together with the interview in a 75:25 ratio.

Negative marking

One fourth of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every wrong answer, in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. There is no penalty for questions left unanswered. Where two candidates finish on the same score, the older candidate is placed higher.

Interview and Exam Centres

Candidates who clear the Main Examination are called for interview at up to three times the vacancies in their category and discipline, at select centres. Outstation candidates are reimbursed to-and-fro sleeper class rail or bus fare on production of valid proof of the journey. Anyone found not meeting the eligibility criteria at the interview stage is neither interviewed nor reimbursed.

Exam centres are chosen in the application form from the list available there. The notice does not name the centres, and the company reserves the right to allot a different centre, cancel centres, or add new ones. A choice once exercised is final and no change requests are entertained, so pick carefully.

UIIC AO Salary, Probation and Bond

Basic pay is in the scale of Rs 82,485 – 4050(14) – 1,39,185 – 4390(4) – 1,56,745, plus admissible allowances. Gross pay works out to roughly Rs 1,10,000 a month at metropolitan centres. Benefits include gratuity, leave travel subsidy, medical benefits, group personal accident insurance, the National Pension System and leased accommodation, as per company rules.

Two conditions deserve attention before you commit:

  • Probation: one year, extendable at the company's discretion. During probation you must pass the non-life Licentiate Examination of the Insurance Institute of India. Confirmation follows only after passing it; failing within the extended probation makes the officer liable to termination.
  • Guarantee bond: before joining, selected candidates undertake to serve for a minimum of five years including probation. Resigning earlier makes you liable for liquidated damages equal to the actual gross salary paid, capped at one year's gross salary, plus Rs 35,000 towards onboarding and integration cost. Resigning after one year but before five reduces the damages proportionately.

How to Apply for UIIC AO Recruitment 2026

Applications are accepted online only, from 8 September to 28 September 2026, both days inclusive. No other mode is accepted.

  1. Go to the recruitment section of uiic.co.in and open the Apply Online link, which leads to the IBPS registration portal.
  2. Choose Click here for New Registration and enter your name, contact details and email id. A provisional registration number and password are generated and sent to you.
  3. Fill in the application, choosing your discipline — Generalist or Hindi Officer — and your exam centre. Neither can be changed after registration, and no correspondence about a change is entertained.
  4. Upload your photograph and signature to the specification given in Annexure-I of the notice. Our image resizer and image compressor will get scans to the required dimensions and file size without wrecking the quality.
  5. Pay the fee online and save the e-receipt. Print the completed form for your records.

Read the full notice before you register — Annexure-I carries the detailed registration, payment and upload guidelines, and the company expects them to be followed scrupulously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for both Generalist and Hindi Officer posts?

No. A candidate can apply and appear for either Generalists or Hindi Officers, not both. Multiple registrations or appearances in the online examination or interview will get your candidature cancelled. Only one application should be submitted.

Are there vacancies in Assam or the North East?

The notice does not give a state-wise breakdown. It states plainly that the vacancies are substantially in the Western and Southern zones and that selected candidates are likely to be posted there, with an initial posting of at least five years during which transfer requests to a place of choice are not entertained.

What is the age limit and cut-off date?

21 to 30 years as on 30 June 2026 — born between 30 June 1996 and 30 June 2005, both days inclusive. Relaxations apply for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen, widows and divorced women, and existing public sector general insurance employees, subject to a maximum of 45 years.

My degree result came after 30 June 2026. Can I still apply?

No. Candidates who wrote the final examination by 30 June 2026 but whose results were declared after that date are not eligible. The qualification must have been completed on or before 30 June 2026.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. One fourth of the marks for a question is deducted for each wrong answer, in both the Preliminary and Main examinations. Unanswered questions carry no penalty.

Do Preliminary marks count towards the final merit list?

No. For Generalists the final merit uses the Main Examination objective test and interview in a 75:25 ratio. For Hindi Officers it uses the Main objective and descriptive marks together with the interview, also 75:25. Preliminary marks do not count for either.

What is the application fee?

Rs 1,000 plus GST for general candidates, and Rs 250 service charges plus GST for SC, ST, PwBD candidates and permanent UIIC employees. The fee is non-refundable.
