SIRISH Scholarship 2026-27 — Seven Schemes Open, Apply by 5 October

The window runs from 25 August to 5 October 2026. That comes straight from the advertisement notice dated 24 August, so you have until the 5th of October and not a day more. In past years the Directorate has reopened the portal for a few extra days to take in left-out applications, but that is a favour, not a plan — treat the 5th as final.

One thing worth knowing before you start: the amount is not the same for every scheme, and most of them cannot be combined. More on that below.

The Seven Schemes

These are the schemes named in the advertisement. Read the guideline for whichever one fits you before you fill anything in — the Directorate says so plainly, and it is good advice, because the eligibility differs quite a bit between them.

1. Pre-Matric Scholarship — for school students.
2. Post-Matric Scholarship — for students who have passed HSLC and gone on.
3. Simon Sing Horo Special Post-Matric Scholarship — a separate post-matric award with its own criteria.
4. Financial Assistance for ANM/GNM and other technical courses — for nursing and technical students.
5. Financial Assistance for Higher Studies — MBBS, engineering, MBA, law, research and the like.
6. Financial Assistance for Civil Services — for those who have cleared the UPSC or APSC prelims.
7. Grants for patients suffering from TB, cancer and other major diseases.

Who Is Eligible

Three conditions apply across every scheme on the portal:

• You must be a permanent resident of Assam and belong to the Tea Tribes or Adivasi community.
• Your family income must not exceed Rs 5 lakh a year. Your parent or guardian signs an undertaking to that effect, in the format the portal gives you.
• You need a bank account in your own name, seeded with your Aadhaar. The money is transferred directly, so an account in a parent's name will not do.

Each scheme then adds its own rules. Financial Assistance for Higher Studies, for instance, also wants a caste certificate signed by the Deputy Commissioner, and it is closed to anyone already holding a government job. Students on correspondence courses can apply. If you were detained and are repeating a class, you cannot claim for that same class twice.

How Much You Get

The Higher Studies scheme publishes its rates, and they are grouped by course.

The other schemes do not publish their rates on the portal. Rather than guess at them, the honest answer is to read the guideline for your scheme on the SIRISH site or on ttwd.assam.gov.in, or ring the officer listed for that scheme.

One scheme at a time

This is the part that catches people out. If you take Financial Assistance for Higher Studies, you cannot also claim another scheme in the same year — with one exception. You may hold it alongside the Simon Sing Horo Special Post-Matric Scholarship if you qualify for that too. Everything else is one or the other.

Documents You Will Need

The exact list depends on your scheme, but these come up again and again, and gathering them first will save you a second sitting:

• Birth certificate, HSLC admit card or HSLC pass certificate, as proof of age
• Caste certificate — for Higher Studies it must be issued by the Deputy Commissioner or an officer they have designated
• Income undertaking from your parent or guardian, in the portal's format
• Marksheet of the last examination you passed
• Admission fee receipt, or a recommendation letter from your head of institution
• Aadhaar card
• First page of your Aadhaar-seeded bank passbook

Scan everything before you log in. All three run on your own phone, and nothing you load into them is uploaded anywhere.

If you applied in an earlier year you have it easier — the portal generally asks returning applicants only for the current year's marksheet and proof that you are still studying.

How to Apply

1. Go to sirishassam.in.
2. Applying for the first time? Register first. Aadhaar authentication is compulsory, so keep your Aadhaar and your registered mobile to hand.
3. Applied before? Do not register again. Log in with the user ID and password you already have, and upload this year's documents.
4. Choose your scheme and fill in the form. Enter your bank details slowly — a wrong account number is the commonest reason a sanctioned payment never arrives.
5. Submit, and save the acknowledgement receipt.
6. Keep that receipt and your original documents ready. The Sub-Divisional Welfare Officer will call you in to check them against what you uploaded.

Do not apply from two different sub-divisions hoping to improve your chances. The notice is explicit that repeat applications will not be considered at all.

What Happens After You Apply

1. Your Sub-Divisional Welfare Officer checks your documents and puts your name on a consolidated list.
2. The Sub-Divisional Level Beneficiary Selection Committee approves that list.
3. The approved lists go to the Director, who consolidates them and places the final list before the Chairman of the State Level Advisory Committee. If anything looks doubtful, the Director can send a list back for re-verification.
4. Once it is approved, the money reaches you by direct bank transfer.

It is a long chain with several desks in it, which is the real reason to apply early and get your documents right the first time. The Directorate works to a target of finishing by 31 March each financial year.
