RRB JE Recruitment 2026 — 3,993 Junior Engineer Posts, Apply by 13 September

This is a three-year diploma-level engineering exam, one of the largest RRB has run in recent years by vacancy count. There is no state-wise quota — Assam candidates apply through the zone their RRB falls under and compete on that zone's merit list, alongside every other RRB nationally for the same CEN.

RRB JE Recruitment 2026 Vacancy Breakdown

The 3,993 posts are split across RRB's zones and across the Junior Engineer disciplines — Electrical, Civil, Track Machine, Mechanical, Diesel Electrical and S&T/Telecommunication — plus a smaller number of Depot Material Superintendent posts. RRB publishes the zone-wise and discipline-wise split in the CEN annexure rather than one combined table, so check the notification for the exact count under your zone and discipline before you apply.

RRB JE Eligibility

• A three-year diploma in engineering in the discipline matching your chosen post — Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or the relevant technical stream — from a recognised institution.
• Age between 18 and 33 years, calculated as on 1 January 2027.
• Category relaxation applies on top of the base limit — up to 15 years for SC/ST candidates with a disability (PwBD), and the usual smaller relaxations for OBC and other reserved categories as set out in the CEN.
• Depot Material Superintendent carries its own qualification line, closer to a commerce or supply-chain background than a pure engineering diploma — check the CEN's post-specific eligibility if this is the post you are aiming for.

Application Fee

The fee is Rs 500 for general and OBC candidates, and Rs 250 for SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, women, minority and Economically Backward Class candidates. Both amounts are refundable — RRB returns the fee, minus bank charges, once you appear for CBT-1, so paying it is not money lost even if you do not clear the exam.

How to Apply

1. Go to rrbapply.gov.in.
2. Register with your basic details if you do not already have an account on the portal from an earlier RRB exam.
3. Choose CEN No. 04/2026, fill in your diploma details, category and the post and zone you are applying under.
4. Upload your photograph and signature to the specifications the portal asks for.
5. Pay the application fee online — Rs 500 or Rs 250 depending on your category.
6. Submit the form and save the confirmation. A correction window opens after the deadline, so check the CEN for its exact dates if you spot an error later.

Documents You Will Need

• Diploma certificate and marksheets in your engineering discipline
• Category certificate — SC, ST, OBC, EWS or PwBD, if claiming reservation or the lower fee
• Passport-size photograph and signature, scanned to the portal's specifications
• Aadhaar card or another accepted photo ID
• Ex-Servicemen discharge certificate, if applying under that category

Selection Process

RRB JE selection runs in four stages:

1. CBT-1 — a computer-based screening test. Marks from this stage are not carried forward; it only decides who moves on.
2. CBT-2 — a longer computer-based test that goes deeper into your technical discipline, and this is the stage the final merit is built on.
3. Document Verification — for candidates who clear both computer-based tests.
4. Medical Examination — against the standards Railways sets for the post you are selected for.

There is no interview. The written stages and document check decide the outcome.
