BEL Probationary Engineer 2026: 350 Posts, Age Limit 25 for General

The pay is a basic of ₹40,000 rising to ₹1,40,000, which BEL puts at about ₹13 lakh a year in cost to company. That’s a strong start for a fresh graduate willing to move. For someone who wants to stay in Assam, this isn’t it.

Who Can Apply: Five Electronics Branches and Mechanical

Unreserved, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates need a first class B.E, B.Tech or four-year B.Sc Engineering from an AICTE-approved college. SC, ST and PwBD candidates need only a pass. A first class AMIE, AMIETE or GIETE in the same branches also counts.

• Electronics posts (200): Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication, Communication, or Telecommunication.
• Mechanical posts (150): Mechanical only.

The notice says other equivalent disciplines and dual specialisations will not be considered. Electrical and Electronics Engineering isn’t on the list, so on the notice’s own wording it doesn’t qualify.

If your university gave a CGPA, you’ll need its official conversion-to-percentage certificate at the interview, and without it you’re out. BEL also bars colour-blind candidates from both disciplines on medical grounds.

Age Limit as a Date of Birth

Age is counted on 1 October 2026, and only your Class 10 or Class 12 board certificate is accepted as proof (a birth certificate only if the board certificate has no date of birth). OBC here means the central list with a non-creamy layer certificate in BEL’s own format, linked below. ₹1,180 Fee, and a Mixed Message for EWS

General, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates pay ₹1,000 plus GST, which is ₹1,180, through SBI e-Pay Lite. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen pay nothing. The fee isn’t refunded, so check you’re eligible before paying.

The notice contradicts itself on EWS. The fee clause and the FAQ at the end say EWS candidates pay, while the separate “How to Apply” page lists EWS among those exempted. Two parts out of three say pay, so if you’re EWS, expect to pay and let the payment page decide.

A 125-Question CBT on 22 December, Then a 15-Mark Interview

• 120 minutes, 125 questions: 100 from your engineering branch and 25 on general aptitude and reasoning.
• One mark each, with a quarter mark cut for a wrong answer.
• English and Hindi only. There is no Assamese paper.
• The test is tentatively on 22 December 2026.
• Five candidates per post are called for interview, by discipline and category. The CBT carries 85 marks and the interview 15.
• You must score at least 35% in the CBT and in the interview separately (30% for SC, ST and PwBD).

You pick five test centres. Guwahati is the only one in Assam. The other northeastern options are Shillong, Agartala, Imphal, Churachandpur, Aizawl, Kohima and Itanagar/Papum Pare. BEL doesn’t pay travel for the CBT, but outstation candidates called for interview get AC chair car or 3-tier AC train fare.

Postings Far From Assam, With a ₹2 Lakh Bond

The vacancies are in BEL units at Bengaluru, Ghaziabad, Pune, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ibrahimpatnam, Chennai, Palasamudram, Nimmaluru, Machilipatnam, Panchkula and Kotdwara. BEL can post you anywhere in India.

New engineers do six months of orientation and on-the-job training and sign a service agreement to stay two years. Leaving earlier costs ₹2,00,000.

Filling the BEL Form

1. Open the registration page (Online Application, linked below) and register with your name, date of birth, mobile number and email. These four can’t be changed afterwards.
2. Log in with the user ID and password sent to your email.
3. Upload a colour passport photo taken in the last three months and your signature in JPG. Use the same photo throughout the recruitment. If the portal rejects a file for size, the image resizer can bring it down.
4. Choose your category carefully. It can’t be changed later.
5. Pay the fee if it applies to you, then save the application form and payment slip. Nothing is posted to BEL.

When we opened the application portal on 31 October, its key dates box gave the closing time as 11:55 PM on 18 November, four minutes earlier than the 11:59 PM in the notice. The edit-window rows below it still showed a leftover date from March 2020. Go by the earlier time, and don’t leave it to the last night.
