AIIMS Guwahati Recruitment 2026 — 63 Faculty, 103 Senior Resident Posts

The Senior Resident applications close first, on 18 September 2026. The Faculty cut-off is 15 September 2026 for the online form, with hard copies due by 30 September 2026. If you are eligible for both, note that they need two separate applications and two separate fees.

AIIMS Guwahati Faculty Recruitment — 63 Posts

This is advertisement No. 2-43/2022-23/AIIMS/GHY/ESTT./RECT-FACT/Pt-4/1805, dated 17 August 2026. It is a rolling advertisement, valid for one year from publication in the Employment News, and 15 September 2026 is its second cut-off date rather than a final closing date. If you miss it, or you become eligible later, further cut-off dates follow — but they are announced only on the AIIMS Guwahati website, so you have to watch it yourself.

The 63 posts run across 31 departments, from Anaesthesia and Cardiology through to Urology. The level-wise split:

The department-wise breakdown is in the official notice and is worth opening before you apply, because a department may have one post at one level only. The vacancies are provisional and include backlog posts from earlier recruitments, and AIIMS reserves the right to vary them. A further 4% of the total is horizontally reserved for PwBD candidates (OH-OL and BL).

Faculty pay scale

Medically qualified candidates also get NPA on top. Assistant Professors move to Level 13 of the pay matrix after three years. The probation period is two years.

Faculty age limit

• Professor and Additional Professor: not exceeding 58 years
• Associate Professor and Assistant Professor: not exceeding 50 years

Age is reckoned as on the last date of online application. Relaxation runs 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD (OH-OL and BL), and 5 years for government servants per DoPT instructions. No relaxation is available to SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates applying against unreserved vacancies. The age calculator will settle whether you are inside the limit on the cut-off date.

Faculty eligibility

Medical candidates need a qualification listed in the schedules to the Indian Medical Council Act 1956, plus a postgraduate qualification such as MD or MS or a recognised equivalent. Teaching and research experience requirements rise with the level of the post, and the experience is counted only after the prescribed qualification is obtained. SC/ST candidates get a one-year relaxation on teaching or research experience per DoPT rules.

Faculty application fee

• UR, OBC and EWS: Rs 1,500
• SC, ST, PwBD and women candidates of any community: no fee

The fee is not refunded in any circumstance. Candidates already in government service must produce a No Objection Certificate from their employer at the time of interview — without it you will not be allowed to appear.

AIIMS Guwahati Senior Resident Recruitment — 103 Posts

This is the second notice, No. 02-14/2021-22/AIIMS/GHY/ESTT/RECT(SR)/PART-II/808D(A), dated 2 September 2026. Applications opened on 4 September 2026 and close on 18 September 2026. The interview date will be notified separately.

These are tenure posts on contract for a maximum of three years under the Central Residency Scheme — not permanent appointments, which is the main thing separating them from the faculty posts above. The 103 vacancies are spread across 33 departments:

The largest blocks are General Surgery (14), General Medicine (11), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (7) and Pharmacology (6). Trauma and Emergency Medicine has 5, Anatomy 5, and Microbiology and Transfusion Medicine 4 each. The rest carry one to three posts per department, so check the notice for yours.

Senior Resident eligibility

• Medical candidates: a postgraduate medical degree — MD, MS or DNB — or equivalent in the relevant discipline from a recognised university, under the Residency Scheme.
• Dentistry: MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
• Non-medical candidates: M.Sc with PhD in the relevant subject — Human Anatomy, Medical Physiology, Medical Biochemistry, or Medical Microbiology.

The notice also opens several cross-discipline routes worth knowing about. MD/MS holders in General Medicine or General Surgery may apply for residency in the medical and surgical super-specialty departments respectively. MD Paediatrics can apply for Neonatology. MD in Pathology can apply for Transfusion Medicine. MD in Respiratory Medicine can apply for Pulmonary Medicine. And MD/MS in Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia or General Surgery can apply for Trauma and Emergency.

Senior Resident age limit and pay

The upper age limit is 45 years as on the closing date of online applications. Relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC. For PwBD candidates it is 10 years for General, 13 years for OBC and 15 years for SC/ST.

Pay is Level-11 of the 7th CPC matrix, entry pay Rs 67,700 plus NPA and other allowances for medical candidates, and Rs 56,100 in Level-10 for non-medical candidates holding M.Sc with PhD.

Senior Resident application fee

Transaction charges apply on top. An application without the prescribed fee is rejected outright. You may apply for more than one department, but each one needs its own form and its own fee.

Selection Process

Both recruitments are decided by interview, not a written exam.

For Senior Resident posts, eligible candidates are shortlisted after scrutiny, the list goes up on the institute website, and selection is on interview performance alone. Document verification reporting is at 8:00 am with interviews from 9:00 am, at the Director's Board Room, Medical College Building, AIIMS Guwahati.

For Faculty posts, a Screening Committee shortlists on bio-data, and a screening test may be held if a large number apply for a post. Interviews are at AIIMS Guwahati or another venue decided by the Executive Director. Holding the prescribed qualification does not by itself entitle anyone to an interview call.

No TA or DA is paid for attending the interview in either recruitment.

How to Apply

1. Go to the AIIMS Guwahati website at aiimsguwahati.ac.in and open the recruitment section.
2. Read the notice for the post you want, and confirm you meet the eligibility as on the closing date — that is the date everything is judged against.
3. Keep a valid email ID, a scanned passport photograph and a scanned signature in JPG format ready, along with scans of your certificates.
4. Fill the online form, upload the documents and pay the fee online.
5. Faculty applicants only: send the signed hard copy of the online application with self-attested document copies so it reaches AIIMS by 30 September 2026. The online form alone is not a complete application.

Upload limits on these portals are tight and a phone scan usually overshoots them. The PDF compressor will bring a certificate under the cap, and the image resizer will get a photograph and signature to the required size without turning them illegible.

All correspondence, including the interview schedule, goes to your registered email — so give an address you actually check, and keep visiting the website, because that is where AIIMS says updates will appear.

Documents to Keep Ready

• Postgraduate degree and mark sheets in the relevant discipline
• MBBS or equivalent registration certificate, for medical candidates
• Experience certificates, for faculty posts
• Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC in the prescribed central government format
• EWS Income and Asset Certificate, valid on the last date of application
• PwBD certificate from the competent authority, where applicable
• No Objection Certificate from your current employer, if you are in government service

Is this worth applying for?

For a postgraduate doctor in Assam, this is one of the better openings of the year. AIIMS Guwahati is an Institute of National Importance and still building out its departments, which is why both notices are rolling advertisements — the recruitment is not a one-off. Senior Residency is a three-year tenure post rather than a permanent job, but it is the standard route to a faculty career and the pay at Level-11 is solid.

The faculty posts are the harder ask, with the experience requirements to match, but 30 of the 63 are OBC and 13 SC — a genuinely wide reserved-category opening at professor level. More vacancies of this kind are collected under job updates.
