UPSC EPFO APFC Recruitment 2026 Notification

The Union Public Service Commission has invited online recruitment applications for 80 vacancies of Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner in the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, Ministry of Labour and Employment, under Special Advertisement No. 52/2026, Vacancy No. 26085201722.

EPFO is a statutory body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The post is permanent, Central Board Group A Non-Ministerial, equivalent to Group A of the Central Government at the corresponding pay level.

UPSC EPFO APFC Vacancy Details 2026

Of the 80 vacancies, 3 are reserved for candidates with benchmark disability (PwBD) — one each for blindness and low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, and locomotor disability including cerebral palsy. The suitability and reservation threshold is 40% disability and above.

UPSC EPFO APFC Salary 2026

The post carries Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. Level-10 is the entry grade for Group A gazetted officers — the same level as a newly appointed Assistant Commissioner or Section Officer equivalent in central service.

Probation is one year. The post carries All India Service liability, so officers must serve in any part of India. Headquarters is New Delhi. Officers appointed on or after 01-01-2004 come under the National Pension System.

Educational Qualification

A degree of a recognised University or equivalent. That is the entire essential requirement — any graduate in any discipline qualifies.

Desirable, but not required:

• Diploma in Company Law
• Diploma in Labour Laws
• Diploma in Public Administration

The Commission may relax qualifications at its discretion, for reasons recorded in writing, for candidates who are otherwise well qualified. Experience requirements may be relaxed for SC and ST candidates if enough experienced candidates from those communities are not available.

UPSC EPFO APFC Application Fee 2026

The fee is Rs 25, paid by Visa, MasterCard or RuPay credit or debit card, UPI, or internet banking.

Female candidates, SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from the fee entirely. Between the Rs 25 fee and the exemptions, cost is effectively no barrier to applying for this post — which is unusual for a Group A vacancy.

UPSC EPFO APFC Selection Process 2026

Selection is in two stages: a Recruitment Test (RT) on 20 December 2026, followed by an interview for the shortlisted candidates.

Recruitment Test (RT)

• Pen and paper based, objective type with multiple-choice answers.
• Two hours duration, 300 marks, all questions carry equal marks.
• Negative marking: one-third of the marks for a question is deducted for a wrong answer. No penalty for an unanswered question.
• Medium is English and Hindi.

The RT syllabus broadly covers General English; Indian Culture, Heritage and Freedom Movements; developmental issues and current trends in the Indian economy; Governance and the Constitution of India; General Science and basic computer applications; Elementary Mathematics, Statistics and General Mental Ability; Industrial Relations, Labour Codes and Social Security in India; Principles of Accountancy, Auditing and Insurance; and current events of national and international importance.

Interview

The interview carries 100 marks. The RT and interview are combined in a 75:25 weightage ratio. Minimum qualifying marks in the interview are 50 for General and EWS, 45 for OBC, and 40 for SC, ST and PwBD. Where selection is by RT followed by interview, a candidate must clear the minimum bar at both stages.

Possessing the essential qualification does not by itself entitle a candidate to be called for interview. If applications are numerous, the Commission may also shortlist on the desirable diplomas in Company Law, Labour Laws or Public Administration, or on higher qualifications and relevant experience — so list every qualification and any experience you hold in the application.

RT centres in Assam

The Recruitment Test is held at 84 centres across India. In Assam the centres are Dispur and Jorhat. Centres are allotted first-apply-first-allot and freeze once full, so applying early gives a better chance of your preferred centre. An e-Admit Card is issued on the UPSC website before the test date.

Duties of an APFC

The role covers enforcement, recovery, accounts, administration, cash, legal, pension and computer work — including statutory and administrative functions such as conducting inquiries, settlement of claims, general administration, maintaining the cash book, reconciling bank statements and MIS returns.

This is one of the most accessible Group A central government posts advertised in a given year. The essential qualification is a degree in any discipline, the fee is Rs 25 or nothing at all, and the post is permanent at Level-10 with a one-year probation.

The catch is the selection load. There is a 300-mark Recruitment Test on 20 December 2026 with negative marking, followed by an interview, combined 75:25. A plain degree makes you eligible; the desirable diplomas in Labour Laws, Company Law or Public Administration, higher qualifications, and relevant experience also help if the Commission shortlists before the interview.
