SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026 — Notification Details

State Bank of India has invited applications from eligible Indian citizens for appointment as Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) in the clerical cadre. A candidate may apply for vacancies in one State/UT only and may appear for the test only once under this recruitment project.

Candidates applying for a particular State/UT must be proficient in that state's specified local language (reading, writing, speaking and understanding). For Assam, the local language options are Assamese, Bengali or Bodo. This proficiency is tested after the Main exam but before joining — a candidate who does not hold a 10th or 12th mark sheet showing the language as a subject must clear this test to be appointed.

The Preliminary Examination is tentatively scheduled for September 2026 and the Main Examination for November 2026. Exam centres for Assam are at Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Silchar and Tezpur.

Vacancy Details — Assam (Guwahati Circle)

Merit lists are drawn state-wise and category-wise, and selected candidates are posted only in the state they apply for. There is no inter-state transfer for five years of service. The category-wise breakup for Assam is:

Of the regular vacancies, 11 are reserved for Ex-Servicemen and 4 for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (2 Visually Impaired, 1 Hearing Impaired, 1 Locomotor Disability), included within the parent categories above.

Eligibility Criteria for SBI Clerk Posts

Age Limit (as on 1 April 2026)

A candidate must be not below 20 years and not above 28 years — born not earlier than 2 April 1998 and not later than 1 April 2006. Use our age calculator to check your date of birth against this cut-off before applying.

Upper age relaxation: 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, 10 years for PwBD (General/EWS), 13 years for PwBD (OBC), 15 years for PwBD (SC/ST), and actual defence service plus 3 years for Ex-Servicemen (subject to a maximum age of 50).

Educational Qualification (as on 31 December 2026)

Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government. Candidates in their final year or final semester may also apply, provisionally, subject to producing proof of passing by 31 December 2026.

How SBI Clerk Candidates Are Selected

Selection has three stages: an online Preliminary Examination, an online Main Examination, and a Local Language Proficiency Test for candidates who need it. Marks from the Preliminary exam are not added to the final merit — only the Main exam score decides the state and category-wise merit list.

Roughly 10 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) are shortlisted for the Main exam. There is no sectional cut-off; only the aggregate score decides shortlisting. Wrong answers carry a penalty of 1/4th mark.

Candidates must score a minimum qualifying percentage on aggregate, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/XS/DXS candidates. Trained apprentices of SBI get a 2.5% bonus (5 marks) added to their aggregate.

Phase III — Local Language Proficiency Test

Candidates provisionally selected who have not studied the specified local language (Assamese, Bengali or Bodo, for Assam) at the 10th or 12th standard level must clear this test before joining. Failing it means the offer is withdrawn.

Fees are non-refundable and paid online by debit card, credit card or internet banking.

Pay Scale and Emoluments

Pay scale: Rs 24,050-1340/3-28,070-1650/3-33,020-2000/4-41,020-2340/7-57,400-4400/1-61,800-2680/1-64,480. The starting basic pay is Rs 26,730 (Rs 24,050 plus two advance increments for graduates). Total starting emoluments at a metro posting like Mumbai are around Rs 46,000 per month, inclusive of DA and other allowances. Allowances vary by place of posting.
