Nature of the Post and Remuneration

Read this before you apply. The notification is blunt about it: the recruitment is purely temporary, on a contractual basis, and may be terminated at any time without a reason being given. The initial appointment is for six months and may be extended depending on the work. There is no pay band, no grade pay and no regular-service benefits attached — the figures below are consolidated monthly amounts.

• Hindi Reporter: Rs 35,000 per month
• Hindi Translator, Bengali Translator, Karbi Translator: Rs 25,000 per month each

No TA or DA is paid for attending the test or interview.

Eligibility Criteria for Each Post

Every post needs a Bachelor's degree from a recognised University and a 6-month diploma or certificate in Computer Application. The rest of the requirement differs by post.

Hindi Reporter

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised University.
• Diploma in Hindi Stenography with a qualifying speed of 80 words per minute, plus DTP typewriting in Hindi, from a recognised institution.
• 6-month diploma or certificate in Computer Application.
• Sound knowledge of Assamese and English.
• Knowledge or experience of parliamentary functioning is given preference.

Hindi Translator

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised University, with Hindi as one of the subjects in the course.
• Sound knowledge of Assamese and English literature.
• 6-month diploma or certificate in Computer Application.
• Experience of parliamentary functioning or of reporting for Hindi newspapers is given preference.

Bengali Translator

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised University, with Bengali as one of the subjects in the course.
• Sound knowledge of Assamese, English and Bengali literature.
• 6-month diploma or certificate in Computer Application.
• Experience of parliamentary functioning or of reporting for Bengali newspapers is given preference.

Karbi Translator

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised University. Unlike the Hindi and Bengali Translator posts, the notice does not ask for Karbi as a course subject.
• Sound knowledge of Assamese, English and the Karbi language and literature.
• 6-month diploma or certificate in Computer Application.
• Experience of parliamentary functioning or of reporting for Karbi newspapers is given preference.

Age Limit

You must be not less than 21 years and not more than 40 years of age as on 1 January 2026. The upper limit is relaxed by:

• 5 years for SC and ST candidates
• 3 years for OBC and MOBC candidates

Application Fee

The notification does not mention any application fee for these posts. Confirm on the online form when you apply, but as advertised there is no fee to pay.

Selection Process

The notice sets out three stages:

1. The Secretariat shortlists eligible candidates from the applications received.
2. Shortlisted candidates for Hindi Reporter sit a speed test conducted by the Secretariat.
3. Shortlisted candidates for Hindi, Bengali and Karbi Translator appear before an interview board conducted by the Secretariat.

The list of shortlisted candidates, and the date, place and venue of each test or interview, are published only on the official website. Shortlisted candidates download their admit card from the same website. All correspondence about the recruitment is online — the notice states that no personal correspondence, online or offline, will be entertained during the process, so check the website regularly once you have applied.

How to Apply for Assam Legislative Assembly Recruitment 2026

Applications are accepted online only, on the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat website. The window is open from 10:00 hrs on 10 September 2026 until 24 September 2026. There is no offline or postal option.

1. Open the recruitment section of the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat's official website.
2. Read the full notification and confirm which single post you are eligible for.
3. Register online and fill in your personal, educational and language-qualification details exactly as they appear on your certificates.
4. Upload the documents asked for at registration, including proof of your degree, your language or stenography qualification and the computer application certificate.
5. Submit before the closing date and save a copy of the completed application.

An application that is incomplete is summarily rejected, so check every uploaded file before you submit. The pull of this recruitment is the work and the setting: reporting and translation for the proceedings of the state legislature, at the Assembly Secretariat in Dispur. The field is also narrower than a general Assam government vacancy, because each post needs a specific language qualification.

The trade-off is the terms. These are contractual posts with a six-month initial term and no pay-band or regular-service benefits, and the Secretariat keeps the right to end the engagement without notice or reason. Weigh that against a permanent post you might be preparing for elsewhere. If parliamentary reporting or translation is the direction you want, the preference given to candidates with parliamentary or newspaper experience means this is a route worth taking — put any such experience clearly in your application.
