The India Post GDS Result 2026 for Schedule-II has not been declared yet. As of 2 October 2026, the Department of Posts has not put a shortlisted list for this round on its GDS portal, and it has not announced a date. This post is for you if you applied for Gramin Dak Sevak posts between 2 and 21 September 2026 under Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS, especially for one of the 414 posts in the Assam Circle. If you missed that window, you cannot apply now. Watch our latest job posts for the next round instead.
India Post GDS Result 2026: Assam Merit List Status, 414 Posts
We will update this page when the first list is out. Until then, here is what the notice says about how the merit list is made, what happens after it, and what you can do now so you are not caught short at document verification.
India Post GDS Result 2026: Schedule-II Merit List Status
There is no written exam and no interview for GDS. The "result" is a system-generated list of shortlisted candidates, released division by division on the GDS Online Engagement Portal. The notice gives no date for the first list. The edit window closed on 24 September 2026, so the list is due, but dates you see elsewhere, such as "10 October", are guesses.
A word of caution. Some websites already show a "Download 1st Merit List Assam" button. We checked one of them, and the button opened a WhatsApp channel, not a list. India Post publishes shortlisted names only on its own portal. It also says plainly that it does not make phone calls to applicants. If someone calls to say you are selected and asks for money or your registration details, it is not from the Department.
One more trap: the older GDS site, indiapostgdsonline.gov.in, still opens and still shows shortlisted lists from earlier schedules, such as Schedule-I, January 2025. Those lists are not for this round. For Schedule-II, July 2026, use the portal linked in Important Links below. Our list of official websites for government jobs is a good habit to keep for every recruitment, not just this one.
India Post GDS Assam Circle Vacancy
The Schedule-II notice covers 23,757 GDS posts across India: Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. The Assam Circle has 414 of them, split by the local language you must have studied up to Class 10. Assamese is the language for most of the state. Bengali applies to the three Barak Valley districts, and Bodo to the Bodoland Territorial Council areas. The figures below are from Annexure-Ia on the portal.
| Language group | UR | OBC | SC | ST | EWS | PwBD | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assamese/Asomiya | 159 | 80 | 31 | 26 | 21 | 5 | 322 |
| Bengali (Barak Valley) | 40 | 13 | 6 | 11 | 6 | 1 | 77 |
| Bodo (BTC areas) | 15 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 15 |
| Assam Circle | 214 | 93 | 37 | 37 | 27 | 6 | 414 |
The PwBD column adds up the four disability sub-categories in the annexure. All 15 Bodo posts are unreserved, so competition there is open to every category. The division-wise and post-wise list (which branch office, which village) is on the portal after you log in.
How the GDS Merit List Is Prepared
Selection is on Class 10 marks alone. The system takes the marks in your Secondary School Examination and works out an aggregate percentage to four decimal places. Then it ranks applicants for each post, by category, in the divisions and posts you chose.
- Marks, not grades. If your marksheet shows marks, those are used. If it shows only grades or points, the system multiplies the grade point by 9.5. A CGPA is also multiplied by 9.5, and where both subject grades and CGPA are given, the higher result is used.
- Ties. The older candidate ranks higher. After that, the notice gives a fixed order by category and gender, starting with ST trans-woman and ST female.
- Local language. You are only considered for posts where you studied the prescribed language up to Class 10: Assamese, Bengali or Bodo in Assam.
The notice publishes no cut-off. Each post is ranked on its own, so the "cut-off" for one branch office can be far from the next. Treat any expected cut-off table as an estimate.
How to Check the India Post GDS Result
- Open the GDS Online Engagement Portal (link in Important Links).
- Look for the Schedule-II, July-2026 shortlisted candidates list and choose Assam Circle.
- Open the PDF and search for your registration number or name. Each list shows the division and post you are shortlisted for.
- Check your registered mobile number and email too. The Department sends shortlisted candidates an SMS and email, but it says it is not responsible if these do not arrive, so check the portal yourself.
You can also log in with your registration number to see your application status. If something on the portal is broken, raise a complaint from the "Complaint Registration" option after you log in. The grievance manual explains the steps.
Document Verification After the Result
If you are shortlisted, the clock starts at once. You have 15 days from the date of shortlisting to report to the Divisional Head of the division where the post is. Miss it and the portal marks you "Non-turned up" and cancels your candidature. Take the originals and two sets of self-attested photocopies of:
- Class 10 marksheet and date of birth proof
- Identity proof
- Caste, EWS, PwBD or transgender certificate, if you applied under one
- A medical certificate from a doctor at a government hospital, dispensary or primary health centre (compulsory for everyone)
If you applied as SC, ST or OBC and your certificate is not in the prescribed format, start now. Our guide on how to get a caste certificate in Assam covers the process. If your caste certificate is not in the format, the notice lets you be selected provisionally and gives you 15 days from the offer to submit it in the right format. For EWS there is no such grace: the certificate must be valid for the right financial year and in your hands at verification. See how to apply for an EWS certificate in Assam. OBC applicants must also be outside the creamy layer as on 21 September 2026.
The Department may also check your Class 10 marksheet through DigiLocker. Make sure your DigiLocker account exists and your marksheet is fetched there. If the marks online differ from what you entered, your candidature can be rejected. If you want to recheck that you were within the age limit (18 to 40 years, with relaxation for reserved categories) on 21 September 2026, use the age calculator.
After Verification: Offer, Training and Joining
If your documents match, the portal issues an "Offer of provisional engagement" straight away. You then have 30 days to finish pre-engagement formalities, which include three days of basic training. If you are selected as a Branch Postmaster, you must also arrange a place to run the branch post office in the post village at your own cost, and you must live in that village. If you do not complete the formalities in 30 days, the post goes to the next person on the list.
GDS pay is a monthly Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA), plus dearness allowance. It starts at ₹12,000 to ₹29,380 for BPM and ₹10,000 to ₹24,470 for ABPM and Dak Sevak. You work four to five hours a day. GDS posts are not regular Central Government jobs, and the notice expects you to have another source of income. For the full eligibility and pay details, see our India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 post.
Second and Later GDS Merit Lists
If you are not in the first list, you are not out. When shortlisted candidates do not turn up, fail verification or do not join, the Department of Posts issues supplementary lists to fill those posts. The notice sets a hard end: no list will be issued after 31 December 2026. We post each list in our results section as it comes out.
