IIT Guwahati SRF Recruitment 2026: ISRO Project, Apply by 3 October
SRD or SRF? A Typo in the Notice
The advertisement PDF names the post "SRD(Direct)". The institute's own R&D recruitment portal lists the same vacancy, with the same project code (2627R-0319-EEEN1237RIDI), as "SRF(Direct)", and the pay of ₹42,000 plus 20% HRA is the standard Senior Research Fellow rate. Read "SRD" as SRF, and search for the project title, not the designation, when you look for it on the portal.
IIT Guwahati SRF Recruitment 2026: Vacancy and Project
The project is titled "Development of interferometric workflow for ScanSAR mode data and tools for SAR interferogram quality improvement by developing algorithms for baseline refinement, phase noise reduction etc." In plain terms, it works on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images from satellites. ScanSAR is a wide-area imaging mode, and interferometry compares two radar passes over the same ground to map height or movement. The work is in writing and improving the algorithms that clean up those comparisons. ISRO funds the project, and the Principal Investigator is Dr. Rishikesh Dilip Kulkarni of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

SRF Eligibility and Qualification
The notice gives two routes in:
- An M.Tech in Signal Processing or Imaging Processing, or an equivalent degree.
- A B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical or Computer Science, where you were selected through a national test such as GATE, CSIR-UGC NET (including lectureship), or a national-level exam run by a central agency such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IISc, IISER or NISER.
The notice then adds "+ 2 yrs experience in the development of digital signal/ image processing algorithms" at the end of the second route. The layout does not make clear whether those two years also apply to M.Tech holders. SRF posts usually ask for research experience after the degree, so if you are a fresh M.Tech graduate, email or ring the PI before you count yourself in.
The notice states no age limit and no application fee. If you are still building the GATE route for later fellowships, GATE 2027 registration closes on 5 October.
IIT Guwahati SRF Salary
You get ₹42,000 a month as fellowship, ₹8,400 as house rent allowance and ₹1,250 for medical, which adds up to ₹51,650 a month. Over the full eight months that comes to ₹4,13,200. The notice says nothing about an extension. Project posts often run only as long as the project funds do, so treat eight months as the term you are signing up for.
How to Apply Online at the IIT Guwahati R&D Portal
- Open the R&D recruitment portal and sign up, or log in if you already have an account.
- Search for the project title, starting "Development of interferometric workflow for ScanSAR mode data". The listing shows the post as SRF(Direct).
- Fill in the form and follow the portal's instructions on what to upload.
- Submit before the deadline and keep a copy of what you sent.
The notice lists no documents, but expect to upload your degree certificates and mark sheets, a GATE or NET scorecard if you are applying on the B.Tech route, and proof of your two years of work. Scanned certificates are often too large for upload limits, so shrink them first with our PDF compressor. For trouble with the portal itself, email ernd@iitg.ac.in. Do not send your application by email; the notice asks for it online only.
Selection: Online Interview on 5 October
Selection rests on the online interview alone. Shortlisted candidates will be told by email, and the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati will not send a separate call letter, so watch your inbox and spam folder between the deadline and the interview. The interview starts at 10:00 am on Monday, 5 October 2026, on Google Meet. Test your camera, microphone and connection beforehand, and be ready to talk through the signal or image processing algorithms you have actually built.
Before You Apply
- Deadline. The PDF gives no last date. The portal records the deadline as 4 October 2026, 00:00, the first minute of that day. In practice that means the end of 3 October. Do not leave it for the night of the 4th.
- Questions. Write to Dr. Rishikesh Dilip Kulkarni at rishi.k@iitg.ac.in or call 0361-2583472. Ask about eligibility before you apply, not after.
- Where to apply. Only the iitg.ac.in portal. Our list of official recruitment websites is a quick way to check a link before you enter your details.
