IIT Guwahati Recruitment 2026 has three short-term research jobs on one project in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering: one Assistant Project Engineer and two Junior Research Fellows (JRF). The project is "An Unmanned Reliable Water Quality Monitoring System for Indian Rivers". Apply online by Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The interview is two days later, in person at the IIT Guwahati campus. This suits a BTech or MSc electronics graduate who can get to North Guwahati on 9 October and wants hands-on research work. If you need a permanent job or a long contract, skip it: these posts last 6 months and 3 months. Other openings are under latest job notices.

IIT Guwahati Recruitment 2026: Posts, Pay and Duration
The notice comes from the Research and Development Section of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, reference 2627R-0481-EEEN1366PRAB. Both posts are paid monthly as below.
| Post | Vacancies | Pay | HRA | Medical | Total per month | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Assistant Project Engineer | 1 | Rs 36,000 | Rs 6,480 | Rs 1,250 | Rs 43,730 | 6 months |
| Junior Research Fellow (JRF) | 2 | Rs 18,600 | Rs 3,348 | Rs 1,250 | Rs 23,198 | 3 months |
The notice does not say whether either post can be extended beyond that period. It also says no campus accommodation will be given, so an outstation candidate would have to rent in Guwahati on the salary above.
IIT Guwahati JRF Qualification and Eligibility
Assistant Project Engineer: a BTech in Electronics or Mechanical or a closely related discipline, or an MSc in Electronics, with industrial or R&D experience. Some expertise in embedded systems, design or computer programming is desired.
JRF: a BTech in Electronics or Mechanical or a closely related discipline, or an MSc in Electronics. No experience is asked for.
One line in the notice reads two ways. For the engineer post, "with experience (industrial or R&D)" follows the MSc option, so it is not clear whether BTech holders need experience too. If you are a fresh BTech graduate, apply for the engineer post only if you have project or internship work in embedded systems to show, and ask the Principal Investigator by email if you are unsure (address below).
The notice sets no age limit, no application fee and no minimum percentage. It does not mention GATE or NET either. The research portal may ask for more, so read its instructions before you submit.
Selection: Shortlist on 8 October, Interview on 9 October
Selection rests on a single in-person interview:
- Shortlist: shortlisted candidates are told by email on Thursday, 8 October 2026.
- Interview: Friday, 9 October 2026, at 11:00 AM, in the EEE Conference Room, 1st floor, EEE Department (opposite the Head of Department's office), IIT Guwahati.
- Basis: performance in the interview alone. There is no written test.
That leaves one day between the email and the interview. If you live outside Guwahati, from Silchar, Dibrugarh or Kokrajhar, check your inbox and spam folder early on 8 October and plan your travel in advance. No TA/DA is paid. Expect questions on sensors, microcontrollers and embedded programming, since that is what an unmanned water quality monitoring system is built from. Bring your mark sheets, degree certificate and any project reports, in case the panel asks what you have built.
How to Apply Online
- Open the IIT Guwahati R&D Cell recruitment portal. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati takes applications only there; our list of official recruitment websites shows how to tell real portals from copies.
- Search for the project title "An Unmanned Reliable Water Quality Monitoring System for Indian Rivers" and pick the post.
- Fill in the form and follow the portal's own instructions for uploads.
- Submit by 7 October 2026 and keep a copy of what you sent.
A tidy one-page CV helps with a shortlist this small. The resume builder will produce one, and if the portal asks for certificates as files, the compress PDF tool keeps scans under size limits.
For technical problems with the online form, email ernd@iitg.ac.in. For questions about the project or the work, contact the Principal Investigator, Prabir Barooah, at pbarooah@iitg.ac.in.
