Research Associate Vacancy and Project

There is one vacancy. The project uses machine learning to improve electronic design automation (EDA), the software chain that turns a chip design into a layout ready for manufacture. The notice names three open-source EDA tools you should already know: ABC, Yosys and OpenROAD. The Principal Investigator is Dr. Chandan Karfa of the Computer Science and Engineering department. The institute's R&D recruitment portal lists the funding agency as the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF); the PDF itself does not say.

Research Associate Eligibility and Qualification

You need one of these:

1. A PhD in a relevant area, or
2. An M.Tech or M.E. (or equivalent) with at least three years of research,

in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), or a related discipline.

The notice then lists what the PI is looking for on top of the degree:

• Experience with EDA tools and methods.
• Familiarity with open-source EDA tools such as ABC, Yosys, OpenROAD and related frameworks.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques and how they apply to EDA problems.
• Strong programming and problem-solving skills.
• Prior research or project work in VLSI CAD, hardware design, formal verification or ML for EDA counts as an added advantage.

Only the degree and the three years of research are firm requirements. The rest decides who gets shortlisted, so put your EDA and ML work up front. If your research was in pure software or pure circuit design with no overlap, write to the PI before you spend time on the form.

The notice states no age limit and no application fee.

IIT Guwahati Research Associate Salary

You get ₹58,000 a month as pay, ₹11,600 as house rent allowance (20% of pay) and ₹1,250 for medical, which comes to ₹70,850 a month. Over the full six months that is ₹4,25,100. The notice says nothing about an extension. Project posts usually last only as long as the project's money, so plan on six months and treat anything more as a bonus.

How to Apply Online on the IIT Guwahati R&D Portal

1. Open the R&D recruitment portal and sign up, or log in if you already have an account.
2. Search for the project title, "ML4EDA: Next Generation AI-Assisted Chip Design". The notice tells you to find the post this way, not by designation.
3. Fill in the form and follow the portal's instructions on uploads.
4. Submit before 5:00 pm on 13 October and keep a copy of what you sent.

The notice lists no documents, but expect to upload degree certificates and mark sheets, your PhD certificate or proof of three years of research, and a CV with your publications. Selection: Online Interview on 15 October

Selection rests on the interview alone; there is no written test. The notice reads as if every applicant must appear, but only shortlisted candidates get the meeting link, and it comes from the PI. The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati sends no separate call letter. Watch your inbox and spam folder on 14 October, because the gap between the deadline and the interview is less than two days. The interview starts at 10:00 am on Thursday, 15 October 2026. Test your camera, microphone and connection the night before, and be ready to walk through EDA or ML work you have actually done.
