IOCL Bongaigaon Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Seats and Trades
Indian Oil Corporation's Advertisement No. BGR/Appr/2026/04, dated 28 September 2026, sets out three trades. The IOCL apprentice vacancy by category is below.
| Code | Trade | Training | Seats | UR | EWS | SC | ST | OBC (NCL) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 101 | Trade Apprentice: Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) | 12 months | 36 | 17 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 11 |
| 103 | Trade Apprentice: Boiler (Mechanical) | 24 months | 14 | 6 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 4 |
| 107 | Technician Apprentice: Instrumentation | 12 months | 8 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
Note that the Boiler trade runs for two years, twice as long as the others. The seat numbers are tentative and may change.
The PwBD column is 0 for every trade, even though the notice says PwBD candidates may apply against identified seats "under Codes 107 only". Because refining is a hazardous process, only certain disabilities are considered at all (low vision or blindness, hearing, some locomotor conditions, or a combination). If you are a PwBD candidate, email the refinery before applying (contact details below).
IOCL Apprentice Qualification and Eligibility
- Codes 101 and 103: a 3-year BSc with Maths, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry. You may apply for only one of the two, not both.
- Code 107: a 3-year diploma in Instrumentation Engineering, Instrumentation & Electronics, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, or Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. A lateral-entry diploma (entered in the second year after Class 12 Science or ITI) counts.
- Marks: at least 50% in aggregate across all years or semesters, or 45% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates against reserved seats.
- Mode: regular full-time only. Distance, correspondence and part-time degrees are out, and so is any subject or branch not listed above.
- Result: your result must be out by 30 September 2026. If it is still awaited, you cannot apply.
Three rules rule out more people than the marks do:
- A higher qualification (BE/BTech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or equivalent), including one you finish before joining, makes you ineligible.
- A year or more of job experience after your qualification makes you ineligible.
- So does passing your qualification more than five years before 30 September 2026.
If you have done an apprenticeship before, you can apply only in a different trade, usually after a one-year gap, and first-timers are preferred. You will also need a stamp-paper affidavit (Annexure A of the notice).
IOCL Bongaigaon Apprentice Age Limit
You must be 18 to 24 years old on 30 September 2026 (General and EWS). The upper limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC and ST, and by 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer), for reserved seats. PwBD candidates get 10 years whatever their seat, plus 5 more for SC/ST PwBD and 3 more for OBC PwBD against reserved seats. Only your Class 10 mark sheet or certificate is accepted as age proof. Check your age on the cut-off date with the age calculator.
Selection: Merit on Marks, Then Documents and Medical
There is no written test. Applicants are ranked by aggregate percentage in the qualifying degree or diploma. A tie goes to the older candidate, and then to higher Class 10 marks. Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification (tentatively 4 to 6 November 2026), and then a pre-engagement medical. The medical fitness guidelines are on iocl.com, so read them before you apply.
One date in the notice is plainly wrong. The "list of candidates called for document verification" is printed as 26.08.2026, a month before the notice itself was issued. The list will presumably come shortly before the 4 November verification, so watch iocl.com and your email from late October.
SC, ST and PwBD candidates who travel 30 km or more to document verification get a second-class rail fare refunded both ways, on showing the ticket.
Stipend, Leave and What You Get
The notice does not print a stipend figure. It says the rate follows the Apprentices Act and Apprentices Rules, 1992, and IOCL guidelines. Treat any exact figure you see on other sites as their estimate, not IOCL's. Otherwise, the notice sets out:
- no HRA and no company accommodation, so plan to rent near Dhaligaon
- safety shoes and a helmet, returned at the end
- accident insurance
- 32 days of general leave (8 per quarter, including sick days) and 12 casual leaves a year
- no obligation on IOCL to employ you afterwards
Documents for Verification
Bring originals and one self-attested copy of each:
- Class 10 certificate (age proof) and Class 12 mark sheet
- Every semester or year mark sheet of your BSc or diploma, and the final certificate
- CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate, if your university gives grades
- A certificate from your principal giving the result date (if the mark sheet lacks it), and confirming regular full-time study and good conduct
- Caste, EWS or disability certificate in the Government of India format
- Printout of your NAPS or NATS registration
- Annexure A affidavit, if this is your second apprenticeship
- One original photo ID: Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, driving licence or passport
The OBC certificate must be the central (non-creamy layer) format, valid as on 30 September 2026. An Assam OBC/MOBC state certificate is not the same, and our caste certificate guide explains why. EWS candidates need the Income and Asset Certificate; see the EWS certificate guide. If it is not ready by verification, IOCL accepts an undertaking.
How to Apply Online: Two Steps, Both Compulsory
Step I, the government apprenticeship portal:
- Codes 101 and 103 (BSc): register on the NAPS portal, open Apprenticeship Opportunities, search for the Bongaigaon Refinery location and pick your trade. Type the address with "www"; the version without it, as printed in the notice, does not load correctly. The NAPS establishment ID is E07191800001.
- Code 107 (diploma): register on the NATS portal and apply to the Bongaigaon Refinery advertisement on your dashboard. The NATS establishment ID is EASCHC000001.
Your profile must be 100% complete, and it must show your category and aggregate percentage correctly. Only the NAPS or NATS office can fix a wrong entry, so check it before you apply.
Step II, IOCL's Microsoft form: on iocl.com, go to What's New, then "Engagement of Apprentices at Bongaigaon Refinery 2026-27 (II)", then "Click here to submit additional information on Microsoft forms". Use the same email and mobile number as on NAPS or NATS, and submit only one response. The form closes at 5 PM on 18 October 2026.
If you do only one step, your application is invalid, and details that do not match between the two steps get it rejected. Apply for one trade only; more than one gets every application rejected. IOCL warns that it posts notices only on iocl.com and in Employment News, so ignore job offers that come by WhatsApp or email; our list of official recruitment websites helps you check. For queries, call the refinery at 03664-253136 or email bgrrecruit@indianoil.in.
If you are a graduate who does not fit these trades, the Canara Bank apprentice scheme takes any degree and has 42 seats in Assam, with the same NATS registration.
