Canara Bank Apprentice Recruitment 2026: 3500 Seats, 42 in Assam

By AssamJobDesk TeamPublished on

Canara Bank Apprentice Recruitment 2026 offers 3,500 one-year graduate apprentice seats across India, with 42 in Assam. The stipend is Rs 16,650 a month. There is no written exam: the bank ranks applicants by their Class 12 marks. Online applications run from 1 October to 17 October 2026 on canarabank.bank.in, and you must first register on the government's NATS apprenticeship portal. This is for recent graduates aged 20 to 28 who finished their degree in 2023 or later and have not worked for a year or more since. It is training, not a bank job. If you already have a year of experience or have done an apprenticeship before, you cannot apply. Other openings are on our latest jobs page.

Canara Bank Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Seats in Assam and the North East

Seats are allotted state by state, and you can apply for only one state. The Canara Bank apprentice vacancy in Assam is 42 seats. The table shows how they split by category, next to the seven other North East states.

One of Assam's 42 seats is also marked for a visually impaired (VI) candidate, counted inside the total. Nationally, Karnataka has the most seats (581), followed by Uttar Pradesh (409) and Tamil Nadu (391). The bank says the numbers are provisional. Once you pick a state, you rank its districts by preference, but the bank can place you in any district of that state.

Canara Bank Apprentice Age Limit and Qualification

Everything is counted as on 1 September 2026.

  • Age: 20 to 28 years, meaning born between 2 September 1998 and 1 September 2006. The upper limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) and 10 years for PwBD. Widows and divorced or legally separated women who have not remarried can apply up to 35 (General/EWS), 38 (OBC) or 40 (SC/ST). Check your exact age with the age calculator.
  • Qualification: a degree in any discipline, passed between 1 January 2023 and 1 September 2026. A 2022 graduate is out, however good their marks.
  • Class 12 marks: at least 60% in Class 12 (HSC/10+2) or diploma, or 55% for SC, ST and PwBD. Fractions are dropped, so 59.99% counts as below 60%.
  • Not eligible: anyone who has done or is doing an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act (with any organisation), anyone whose apprenticeship was ended for their own fault, and anyone with a year or more of training or job experience after graduating. Ex-servicemen cannot be engaged, and there is no ex-servicemen quota.

How the Merit List Works

This is the oddest part of the notice. Although the scheme is for graduates, the state-wise merit list is built from your Class 12 or diploma percentage, not your degree marks. Ties go to the older candidate. The percentage is total marks in all subjects divided by the maximum, so do not enter a "best five" figure. If your board gave a CGPA, convert it to a percentage and keep the board's conversion certificate ready.

After the merit list, shortlisted candidates go through document verification, a local language test and a medical check. In Assam, the language options are Assamese, Bengali or Bodo. If your Class 10 or 12 mark sheet shows you studied the language you chose, you skip the test. Otherwise you take it at document verification, and failing it ends your chance. The merit list uses only what you type into the form, and any mismatch at verification disqualifies you, so enter your marks exactly as the mark sheet shows.

Canara Bank Apprentice Stipend and Training

The stipend is Rs 16,650 a month for 12 months. Canara Bank pays Rs 10,500 into your account, and the Government of India credits Rs 6,150 directly by DBT. There are no other allowances, and no PF, ESI or bonus. You train at a branch during clerical working hours and get one casual leave for each month completed, 12 a year, with no more than 4 at a time. At the end you get a NATS joint certificate.

Be clear about what this is. Apprentices are not bank employees, cannot join a union, and the bank has no obligation to hire you afterwards. What you get is a year of paid branch work, which can be useful if you plan to sit bank clerk or PO exams later.

Application Fee

SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay nothing. Everyone else, including General, OBC and EWS, pays Rs 500 including GST and intimation charges. The fee is not refunded.

If you apply in a reserved category, the certificates must be in the Government of India format. OBC candidates need a central OBC certificate with the non-creamy layer clause, and an Assam OBC/MOBC state certificate is not the same thing. Our caste certificate guide explains the difference, and EWS candidates can follow the EWS certificate guide for the Income and Asset Certificate. You produce these at document verification, not when you apply.

Before You Apply: NATS Registration and Uploads

Step one is not the bank's site. Register on the NATS apprenticeship portal and complete your profile to 100%. Only a complete NATS profile is eligible, and you will need the enrolment ID it gives you in the bank's form. Do this first, well before 17 October, so the bank form is not held up by an incomplete profile.

Then prepare four scanned files in JPG:

  • Photo: recent colour passport photo, 20 to 50 KB, 200 x 230 pixels preferred
  • Signature: black ink on white paper, 10 to 20 KB, 140 x 60 pixels, not in capital letters
  • Left thumb impression: black or blue ink on white paper, 20 to 50 KB, 240 x 240 pixels
  • Handwritten declaration: 50 to 100 KB, 800 x 400 pixels, in English, in your own handwriting and not in capitals. The text is: "I, (Name of the candidate), hereby declare that all the information submitted by me in the application form is correct, true and valid. I will present the supporting documents as and when required."

The passport photo tool makes the photo, and the image resizer gets the signature, thumb impression and declaration to the right pixel size and file size.

How to Apply Online

  1. Complete your NATS profile and note your enrolment ID.
  2. From 1 October 2026, go to canarabank.bank.in, then Careers, then Recruitment, and open "Engagement of Graduate Apprentices in Canara Bank under Apprentices Act, 1961 for FY 2026-27".
  3. Click "Click here for new registration", and note the provisional registration number and password.
  4. Fill in the form with your name exactly as on your Class 10 certificate. Choose one state and rank its districts.
  5. Upload the four files and preview them.
  6. Pay the fee online, then print the e-receipt and application form.

You can apply only once. If you submit twice, only the latest complete application is kept. Nothing can be changed after final submit. Apply only through the bank's own site; the notice warns that it is not responsible for wrong information from unofficial job portals, and our list of official recruitment websites shows the real bank domains.
