CPRI Recruitment 2026: 110 Technician, Assistant and Engineer Posts

By AssamJobDesk TeamPublished on

CPRI Recruitment 2026 fills 110 posts at the Central Power Research Institute, an autonomous society under the Ministry of Power. Online applications close on 12 October 2026 at 5:00 PM, not midnight. The posts run from Technical Attendant, which needs only Matriculation, up to Engineering Officer, which is filled on GATE score. This is for you if you hold an ITI in Electrical or Mechanical, a first-class degree with the NIELIT BCC certificate, a diploma or BSc Chemistry with five years of experience, or an electrical or civil engineering degree with a recent GATE score.

Skip it if you cannot travel out of the Northeast for the test. There is no exam centre in the region, and the nearest one for Assam is Kolkata. CPRI has a unit in Guwahati, but the notice does not say where these 110 posts are, and you can be posted to any CPRI office in India.

Within these numbers, some posts are kept for persons with benchmark disabilities: 1 Engineering Officer (Electrical), 2 Engineering Assistant (Electrical), 2 Technical Attendant and 3 Assistant Gr. Two things stand out. There are only two ST vacancies in the whole advertisement, both in Assistant Gr. II. And four of the seven Electrical Engineering Officer posts are EWS. CPRI also says the numbers are provisional and can go up or down.

Everything, from age to certificates to your category, is judged on the closing date, 12 October 2026. You must be at least 18. If you are near the limit for your post, check your exact age on that date with the age calculator.

The upper age is relaxed as per Government of India norms, but the notice gives no figures, and it says relaxation applies to reserved posts only. Read that with the vacancy table: an ST candidate, for example, has a reserved vacancy only in Assistant Gr. II.

For Assistant Gr. II, the computer certificate is strict. Only the NIELIT Basic Computer Course counts, at Grade B or above, and you must hold it by 12 October. The notice says no other computer course will be accepted, so a DCA or PGDCA will not do.

For the experience posts, a letter from your employer is not enough on its own. CPRI wants it on letterhead showing your post, period of service, gross pay and area of work, backed by EPF statements or UAN service history, bank statements showing salary credits, or Form 16.

Leave, LTC, medical benefits and allowances follow Government of India norms as they apply to CPRI staff. Every post starts with two years of probation.

CPRI Exam Pattern and Selection Process

  • Engineering Officer: GATE score only. There is no CPRI test.
  • Engineering Assistant and Scientific Assistant: computer based test, then a job-specific practical skill test.
  • Technician: computer based test, and you must also pass a trade test.
  • Technical Attendant and Assistant Gr. II: computer based test only.
  • MTS: computer based test, then a trade or proficiency test.

The computer based test is 90 minutes, 100 multiple choice questions, one mark each, with 0.25 marks cut for every wrong answer. For the technical posts, 60 questions are general (15 each on reasoning, general awareness, quantitative aptitude and English) and 40 are on your branch or trade. For Technical Attendant, those 40 cover basic electrical knowledge, workshop practice, tools and industrial safety. Assistant Gr. II and MTS get 25 questions on each of the four general sections and nothing technical. If two people tie, the older one ranks higher.

Exam Centres: Nearest for Assam Is Kolkata

The test is held in five cities only: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Delhi and Kolkata. CPRI tries to give you the centre you choose but can send you elsewhere, and it does not take requests to change. Travel for the test, the skill or trade test and document verification is at your own cost. The venue and date come on the admit card, and the schedule will be posted on the CPRI website.

Application Fee

The fee is Rs 1,000 per post for Engineering Officer, Scientific Assistant and Engineering Assistant, and Rs 700 per post for Technician, Assistant Gr. II and Technical Attendant. GST is included, bank charges are extra. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates are exempt. OBC and EWS candidates pay the full fee. The notice gives no fee for MTS, but every MTS post is for ex-servicemen, who are exempt anyway. The fee is refunded only if CPRI cancels the recruitment.

How to Apply for CPRI Recruitment 2026

  1. You apply online only. Open the Application Registration Link on the CPRI career page. It is listed under Important Links below. Use your own email and mobile number, because every update goes there.
  2. Upload a colour passport-size photo no more than three months old, and your signature in black ink on a white background. Use the same signature on the test attendance sheet later, because a mismatch can cancel your candidature.
  3. Upload, as PDFs, your Class 10 certificate and marks card, your degree, diploma or ITI certificate with marks cards, and your experience certificate, BCC certificate, category certificate, employer NOC and ex-servicemen papers as they apply. If a file is too large, the image resizer and PDF compressor help. Blurred scans count as missing documents, and the form is rejected.
  4. If you claim OBC, the certificate must show you on the central government OBC list and outside the creamy layer, or you are treated as unreserved. An EWS certificate must be in the Government of India format. Our guides to the caste certificate and the EWS certificate in Assam explain how to apply. Ask for the central format.
  5. Pay the fee, submit the form and keep a printout.

Applying for two posts means two forms and two fees. Two forms for the same post get both rejected. The category you pick cannot be changed, and a submitted form cannot be withdrawn.

Before You Apply

  • The form closes at 5:00 PM on 12 October. CPRI warns it is not responsible for last-day network problems.
  • If you work in a government office, PSU, public sector bank or autonomous body, bring an original No Objection Certificate to document verification.
  • The name on your photo ID must match the name you register with exactly.
  • If you need a scribe or extra time as a person with a disability, tick it on the form. It cannot be added after you submit.
  • Queries go only by email to recruitment@cpri.in. Phone queries are not answered.

If you have an ITI, BCPL is also hiring technicians and operators until 9 October. Engineering graduates looking beyond GATE-based jobs can still catch the UPSC Engineering Services 2027 form before 6 October. For more openings, see the latest government job notices.
