Supreme Court Recruitment 2026 is open for 250 Junior Court Assistant posts in the Registry of the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. Online registration runs from 7 October to 28 October 2026, closing at 11:55 PM. This is for you if you already hold a bachelor's degree, were between 18 and 30 on 1 September 2026, and can type at least 35 words a minute in English on a computer. If you are still waiting on a final-year result, or you cannot type at that speed yet, skip this one.
Supreme Court Recruitment 2026: 250 Junior Court Assistant Posts
For readers in Assam, the useful detail is where the tests happen. The first paper can be written in Guwahati or Dibrugarh. Every stage after that runs in Delhi/NCR or online, and the court pays no travel allowance.

Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant Vacancy 2026
The 250 figure is tentative. The advertisement says the Registry can change the number of posts as its needs change, and it can also alter or cancel the selection process without a fresh notice. The selection fills a panel, not a fixed list of seats.
The notice does not split the 250 posts by category. Reservation follows Rule 4A of the Supreme Court Officers and Servants (Conditions of Service and Conduct) Rules, 1961. If another site shows you a category-wise Supreme Court vacancy table for this round, it did not come from this advertisement.
Junior Court Assistant Salary
The post sits at Level 6 of the Pay Matrix, with a starting basic pay of Rs 35,400 a month plus allowances. The notice does not list the allowances or give a gross figure, so treat any in-hand salary you see quoted elsewhere as someone's estimate.
Junior Court Assistant Eligibility and Qualification
- A bachelor's degree from a recognised university in India. No stream is named, so any discipline counts.
- Knowledge of computer operation, with a typing speed of at least 35 words a minute on a computer.
- Indian citizenship.
One date catches people out. Every condition is judged as on 1 September 2026, which is a month before the form even opens. If your degree result came out after 1 September, you do not meet the qualification for this round, even if you hold the marksheet by 28 October.
Supreme Court Recruitment 2026 Age Limit
You must be at least 18 and not more than 30 years old on 1 September 2026. Put your date of birth and that cut-off into the age calculator if you are close to the line. Relaxation works like this:
- SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen get the usual relaxation under Government of India rules.
- Dependents of freedom fighters get up to five extra years, so the limit becomes 35.
- Departmental candidates already in the Registry have no upper age limit.
- People working in other government departments, PSUs or nationalised banks get no age relaxation at all.
If you are claiming a reserved category, you upload the caste certificate with the form, not later. If yours is not ready yet, the caste certificate guide for Assam walks through the application. The OBC benefit is only for the non-creamy layer. The notice does not mention EWS anywhere, in the fee list or the age rules.
Application Fee
The fee is Rs 1,500 for General/Unreserved candidates and Rs 750 for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), ex-servicemen and physically challenged candidates. Bank charges are extra. You pay online through the UCO Bank gateway on the form, and no other mode is accepted. The fee is not refunded under any circumstances, so check your eligibility before you pay.
Supreme Court JCA Exam Pattern and Selection Process
Selection has four stages, and you need the qualifying marks in each one:
| Stage | Duration | Maximum marks | Qualifying marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Objective type test (100 multiple choice questions) | 1 hour 30 minutes | 100 | 50 |
| Typing speed test on computer, in English (35 w.p.m.) | 10 minutes | 50 | 25 |
| Written test (descriptive), in English | 2 hours | 100 | 50 |
| Interview | Not stated | 25 | 13 |
The objective paper has 20 questions on General English with comprehension, 15 on general aptitude, 15 on general knowledge, 15 on the provisions of the Constitution relating to the judiciary, 10 on the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, 10 on the Officers and Servants Rules, 1961, and 15 on computer knowledge. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
Those two sets of rules are worth 20 marks between them, and they are specific to this court, so read them in the original. The court posted a notice on 1 October linking both, and they are listed under Important Links below.
If many candidates pass the objective test, the Registry shortlists ten for every vacancy, which works out to about 2,500 people for the typing test and the descriptive paper. The descriptive paper, made up of a comprehension passage, a precis and an essay, is only marked if you pass the typing test. Three candidates per vacancy, about 750, go on to the interview.
In the typing test, up to 3% of the words you type can be wrong. A wrong word or figure is a full mistake. A capital typed as a small letter, or the other way round, and a missing, extra or wrong punctuation mark count as half a mistake each.
Exam Centres in Assam and the Northeast
Only the objective test is held across the country. Assam has two centres, Guwahati and Dibrugarh. Elsewhere in the Northeast, the list has Naharlagun, Imphal, Shillong, Aizawl, Kohima, Gangtok and Agartala. You pick cities in order of preference on the form, but the Registry can move you to another city, and it will not take requests to change a centre or a date.
The objective test is tentatively set for 20 November 2026. The typing test and descriptive paper are held in Delhi/NCR, and the interview is either online or in person in Delhi. Their dates will be announced on sci.gov.in and sent by SMS and email.
How to Apply Online for the Junior Court Assistant Post
- From 7 October, open the recruitment link on sci.gov.in, the official website of the Supreme Court of India. Apply only there. Our list of official government job websites explains how to tell a real portal from a copy.
- Enter your name, your father's and mother's names and your date of birth exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate. A changed name needs a Gazette notification.
- Upload a recent photograph, your signature, Class 10, Class 12 and graduation certificates, a caste certificate if you are in a reserved category, and a disability certificate if it applies. A passport photo maker helps with the photograph. The notice does not give file size limits, so read the limits shown on the form and use the image resizer or PDF compressor to fit them.
- Pay the fee online.
- Preview the form, submit it, and keep a printout for yourself. Do not post it to the court.
- Write down your application number. You need it to download the admit card.
Once submitted, the form cannot be withdrawn or edited, and the category you pick cannot be changed later. If you submit twice, only the last form counts.
Before You Apply
- Already in a government job, a PSU or a bank? You will need a No Objection Certificate from your employer at document verification.
- If you get a job while the selection is running, tell the Recruitment Cell at recruitment.cell@sci.nic.in. The notice warns that staying quiet will count against you.
- Keep the mobile number and email on your form active until the process ends. Admit cards are not posted, you download them.
- Candidates with disabilities can ask for a scribe using Annexure I or IA of the advertisement, and get compensatory time.
- Any false document or detail cancels your candidature at any stage, even after you join.
For other openings across Assam and central departments, see the latest government job notices.
