Only the format changes. The picture keeps its pixel dimensions, so a photo that was the right size for a form stays the right size; if you also need it smaller in pixels use Resize image, and to hit a KB limit use Compress image. For JPG and WebP a quality slider trades sharpness for file size; PNG is lossless and ignores it.

Most people arrive here for one of two reasons: a portal accepts only one format and rejects what they have, or an iPhone photo came through as HEIC and the upload form will not take it. The tool reads the file on your device and hands back the converted copy with a name that says which format it is, so converting the same photo to two formats does not overwrite the first.

How to convert an image

  1. Open your image. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, BMP and most other formats your browser can read are accepted. It is read on your device — nothing is uploaded.

  2. Choose a format. JPG for uploads, PNG to keep a transparent background, WebP for the smallest file. Lower the quality slider for JPG or WebP if you also need it smaller.

  3. Convert and download. The result names the format and the pixel size, and warns you if a transparent background had to be filled with white.

How do I convert an iPhone HEIC photo to JPG?

Open it here and pick JPG. HEIC is what iPhones record by default and most Indian recruitment portals reject it, which is usually how people find this page. On an iPhone the conversion works directly. On an Android phone, the browser often cannot open a HEIC at all — if the tool says so, send the photo to yourself on WhatsApp first and use the JPG copy it saves, or switch the iPhone to Settings › Camera › Formats › Most Compatible and retake it.

Does converting change the size or quality of my photo?

The pixel dimensions never change — a 1200 x 1600 photo stays 1200 x 1600. Going to PNG is lossless and loses nothing. Going to JPG or WebP re-encodes the picture, and the quality slider controls how much detail that costs; 90% is close to invisible, below 70% the small print on a scan starts to smudge.

Which format should I upload?

JPG unless the form says otherwise — it is the one every portal accepts. PNG only when you need a transparent background, such as a signature, or where a form asks for it by name. WebP is the smallest at the same quality but is still refused by some government sites, so use it only where you know it is accepted.

Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?

Because JPG cannot store transparency, so the see-through parts have to be filled with something, and white is what a document expects. The tool tells you when this has happened. Convert to PNG or WebP instead to keep the background clear.

I converted a JPG to a JPG and it got worse. Why?

Re-encoding a JPG always loses a little more detail, because JPG compression is not reversible. The tool warns you when the file is already the format you picked. Only convert to the same format on purpose — to lower the quality and shrink the file — and otherwise use the original.

Why is my converted PNG bigger than the original JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, with no lossy compression, so a photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than the same photo as JPG. That is normal and not a fault. If you need a smaller file, stay with JPG or WebP, or run the result through Compress image.

Is my image uploaded to convert it?

No. It is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser, and it never leaves your device. There is no server to receive it and nothing is stored — closing the page is enough.
